This essay intends to draw attention to the growing difficulties that the current context poses for the expression of a self-determination that is truly authentic. After a few notes on the constitutional foundation of the right to therapeutic self-determination, to be found in Article 32 of the Constitution, the study dwells on recent events concerning abortion and the end of life. In a society increasingly governed by techno-economic power, which significantly compresses the capacity for individual choice, these practices, once the expression of an instance of freedom, are turning into a sort of tanatopolitics.
