This study aims to stress the need to consolidate a genuine system of mature European parties that can perform the long-standing task, assigned them by the Treaties, to contribute to the creation of a truly European political awareness among EU citizens as a key way to cope with the broad distrust towards the EU 
and its institutions arising among peoples of Europe in these times of crisis.
